Daily Note 28/03/2024 – Market View: Day Ahead, Macro, Stocks, Debt Markets

  • Macro: It was a positive session for markets yesterday as Europe and US equity indices all finished in the green, with the S&P500 closing at a new record high, with markets heading for a second consecutive quarterly gain. From an economic standpoint this morning, the final read for the Q4’23 GDP came in as expected at –0.2% YoY, marking a technical recession. Equity markets are closed in Europe and the US for the Easter break tomorrow, with the UK and Ireland also closed on Monday.
  • Stock: Flutter’s shares sold off (-8%) yesterday following reports that the NCAA, the governing body for college sports in the US, was attempting to have “prop bets” banned on college athletes. (Comment Attached)
  • Debt: Core bond yields moved lower yesterday ahead of Friday’s US Income and Inflation data and the Easter break.
