Daily Note 09/05/2024 – Market View: Day Ahead, Macro, Stocks, Debt Markets

09.05.2024

  • Macro: It was a positive session for equities in Europe yesterday as the Eurostoxx600, the CAC and the DAX all made gains, whilst in the US the S&P500 was flat, and the NASDAQ posted its second consecutive loss. From an economic perspective today, Irish CPI data for April is to be published at 11. Then at noon, the Bank of England is expected to hold its benchmark steady but any dovish commentary around summertime interest rate cuts would be encouraging for investors. Then at half one, US weekly initial jobless claims are expected to show a modest increase.
  • Stock: There were trading updates from ICG, FBD and Uniphar this morning. (Comments Attached)
  • Debt: Core bond yields moved higher yesterday following the hawkish ECB commentary and underwhelming demand for US 10-year notes.
