Daily Note 08/10/2024 – Market View: Day Ahead, Macro, Stocks, Debt Markets

  • Macro: Equities were mixed to start the week yesterday, as the Eurostoxx600 moved modestly higher, whilst in the US, the S&P500 and the Nasdaq both ended the session in the red as traders pulled back bets for rate cuts on robust economic data. In economic news in the day ahead, at 11am, out of the US, the NFIB small business optimism survey is forecast to have increased marginally in September and at 1.30pm, US trade balance data is expected to show the deficit fell to $70.5bn in August, down from $78.8bn in the prior month. 
  • Stock: Volkswagen voiced concerns over trade tariffs and Alphabet’s legal woes continue. (Comment attached)
  • Debt: Core bond yields moved higher yesterday on very light economic news.
