Daily Note 15/01/2025 – Market View: Day Ahead, Macro, Stocks, Debt Markets

  • Macro: Equity markets were mixed yesterday, as the Nasdaq and Eurostoxx600 posted losses, whilst the S&P500 made a modest gain, as investors assessed some encouraging inflation data out of the US ahead of today’s CPI release. Later today, out of the US, we have CPI at 13:30, MBA mortgage applications (12:00), and Empire Manufacturing (13:30) out of the US, as well as the Fed’s Beige Book at 19:00. From Central Bankers, there will be commentary from the Fed’s Williams, Barkin, Kashkari, and Goolsbee, in addition to Lane, Villeroy, Guindos, and Vujcic from the ECB.
  • Stock: We have an update on Volkswagen’s FY24 deliveries report. (Comment attached)
  • Debt: Bond yields climbed yesterday, bringing the total sell-off to 30 bps in 2025.
