Ireland Women’s Indoor Hockey Team Returns to Europe’s Topflight with Cantor Fitzgerald Ireland Support

After 36 years away, the Ireland Women’s Indoor Hockey Team is back on Europe’s biggest stage—and Cantor Fitzgerald Ireland is proud to be on board for this historic journey. With ambition, skill, and determination, the team is ready to take on Europe’s finest at the EuroHockey Indoor Championships 2026 in Prague, Czechia.

This long-awaited return comes after Ireland’s decisive promotion in 2024, when the team claimed the EuroHockey Indoor Championship II in Galway, defeating Lithuania 5–1 in the decisive game. Ireland last competed at the top level in 1985, 1987, and 1990, making this comeback a landmark moment in Irish hockey history.

“This EuroHockey Indoor Championship is a huge and exciting opportunity for the team as we return to topflight indoor hockey after more than 30 years,” says Head Coach Rob Abbott. “This history isn’t lost on us, and we know it will be tough, but the players have earned their place at this level of competition. We’re delighted to have Cantor Fitzgerald Ireland join us on this journey as we continue to build the team and chase success at the highest level of our sport.”

Ireland has been drawn in Pool A, facing Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium. The team kicks off against Germany on Thursday, 15 January, followed by Austria the same day. Matches against Switzerland and Belgium follow on Friday, 16 January, with Crossover Matches scheduled for the weekend.

“We are delighted to support a group whose commitment, resilience, and ambition strongly reflect our values at Cantor Fitzgerald Ireland,” said our COO Aine Cornally. “Supporting women’s sport and teams that strive for excellence feels like a natural fit for us, and we are proud to be part of their journey as they continue to grow and compete on the European stage.”
